Opening a can of Woopra...
Web Friday, April 25 2008Who would have thought that the people would get so excited about statistics, but it appears people are chomping at the bit to try out Woopra web analytics from the comments and forum posts. (yes, I am one of the guilty...)
Today is the day that Woopra has announced they would start a mass activation of pending approvals to use the new version of their innovate platform for gleaning information about web users.
I had first applied to Woopra when I posted about Analytics for Blogs, and have been in "pending" s tatus ever since then. As geeky as it sounds, I am quite curious how well this new platform compares to Clicky, or Google Analytics for this site.
Clicky has a great "Spy" feature which shows you real-time hits and details about your visitors. Woopra promises to provide that and more including Chat with your visitors as well, which is a bit odd perhaps. I don't know what my visitors would think if I just started a chat session out of the blue with them. It reminds me of the old BBS days where the SYSOP could break in for a chat with the caller, which tended me scare the bejeezus out of me at 3am. :)
Some screen shots of their interface:
I'm even holding out on posting other blog posts until I can use Woopra, just so I can see how it displays the traffic the posts get. :)

Waiting patiently for my approval but I can't wait to check it out too! Hopefully we can get them to create a GraffitiCMS and Community Server plugin.

Rick,
I had already contacted them about dev information to create a plugin, so hopefully something is possible in the new release.
GCMS makes it easy to just paste in the tracking code, but a nice widget to display Woopra stats on your site would be nice too.

We're working as hard as we can to match releases of approvals with the number of servers...trying not to overload the system for this major approval. It's a fine line and our first time with so many approvals and sites that want access.
Thanks for your patience! We're working through the night to hopefully make the transition pain-free, for everyone. It just might take time to get to your "group" of approvals. Hang with us.

Lorelle,
I totally understand taking the slow and steady approach. Stability will be much appreciated once people get in, than having issues.
Hope it goes well!

And just as soon as I typed that, I am approved and JS code is now on this site! Woo-Woo!

So are you going to add something to your home page that indicates you are using this spyware? I, personally, don't like people looking over my shoulder.

Jeff, that is awesome news! I am hoping for a Community Server Plugin it would be awesome to have Woopra Widget for CS 2008. :-)
Lorelle, I totally understand about the slow launch and I can see why the high demand, after all you posted such nice screenshots to tease us! :-) We are checking out LT and so far we love how fast everything is running, good luck with the launch and I am sorta patiently waiting. :-)
