The edge distortions always are there when needing to get that close. The photos look very clear to me. The yellow cast is due to using flash and it not choosing the right kind of lighting -- I've always seen the yellower cast when using flash. I tend to use no-flash for this but then you get more grain etc. Good idea to also include screen shots! Jef, I don't think there's anything wrong with your digital camera.
