With the release to RTM of Windows Vista SP1, I was curious how Microsoft’s release schedule for OS’s and Service Packs matches up against Apple’s. So I quickly searched Wikipedia for the release dates, and hopefully they are accurate.
I simply mapped the dates for all the desktop OS releases and service packs from 2000 to present which looks like this:
I know that Apple’s OSX 10.5.1 was released in 11/2007, but does this qualify as a Service Pack? There is a historical breakdown of the version changes of Mac’s OSx, but I have not had the chance to go through it. You can visit the History of Mac OS to read the differences.
Also I did not see much information on OS9 post 2000, but maybe it was on the decline since everyone was switching to OSX, so not many releases were in the pipeline.
